Panman Productions at RSPop[+] – Panman Mixtape no. 83

No Comments 14 March 2012

In the month of February, 2012 Panman Productions operated as a temporary production company on display at the RSPop[+] Popup Shop at the base of the Roger Smith Hotel. Essentially the objective was to build out the concept of the space and test out different ideas that will become part of the larger marketing and branding program offered to different types of businesses.

The video is part of Panman Mixtape Series… It is the 83rd mash-up made in the last three years. If you are interested in learning more, my recommendation is to start with the first. Panman Mixtape no 1 – http://bit.ly/wp6UWS

The future of the street level activity on Lexington and 47th will continue to evolve. Different types of brands are invited to participate from technology to fashion brands, social conscious companies and brands that strive to be innovative. We have built our business to help launch your brand to the next level.

Thursday December 15, 2011
I spent a bit of the day with my father, post surgery, at Greenwich Hospital. All I can is it will be an interesting road to recovery. As I sit and listened to a Doctor talk, I am posting manipulated images to my instagram.

I assure the nurse that I am listening.., I am just a byproduct of the obsessive mobile generation.
Welcome to Pancity!
Panman Mixtape no 79 by Panman
I am hit with a wave of motivation to round out the year on a strong note. List upon list, I create my end of the year objectives. The road ahead will be filled with new adventures and challenges. Tech projects on the Horizon; the transformation of underutilized spaces; Better business operations and relationships; I know I must live my life to it’s fullest.

I need to learn to listen, follow, lead and always strive to innovate.

I want to thank everyone I have worked with in 2011. I’m happy to be bringing new excitement to the Roger Smith Hotel in 2012 operating as their Director of Digital Marketing.

Panman Productions is not dead but will be focused on very specific projects. In 2012 I look to release my documentary on earth healing. It is a project that I have been working on since 2007 and it is long over due.  I am also going to be introducing a new app and will be driving the social initiatives at the Roger Smith Hotel. You will see new pop-ups and witness the next level of collaborative efforts. There will be an increased mobile integration surrounding everything that I am apart of and mark my words, 2012 is my year to shine.

Panman mixtapes have been a great creative initiative for me over the last couple of years. They have served as a testing platform for experimental video and artistic expression.  I have created 80+ mixtapes and am embarking on new artistic collaborations with top New York artist and playwrights as a result. The efforts of live video mixing as an art form have inspired the creative collaborations with Aleks Degtyarev, Abianne Prince, John Birdsong, Lisa Paul Strietfeld,  Daniel Rothbart, Mark Wiener, James Knowles, Jasminka Baney, Melissa Gonzalez, Kate Griffler, Molly Barnes, Daniel Terstad, Fleur Keyes and others…

With new relationships being built I imagine the list of artistic collaborators will grow and become more  sophisticated.

It is also important to note the emergence of the new artistic space at 125 East 47th street and the developing program of artists collaborations in our space in 2012. The current sculpture piece by Harlan Mack stands strong in New York City’s newest Gallery installation window. I will be working with Molly Barnes as well as the Vermont studio center to fill the program for 2012. Be sure to follow the 125 window gallery tumblr for latest updates and news.

So at this point I want to thank a couple specific people with made huge difference in my year and recognize their good work. Starting with the RS pop-up shop, I tip my hat to Melissa Gonzalez and Lionesque media. Together, inspired from an idea of transforming an under utilized space Melissa has gone far and beyond my levels of expectation. She has pushed me to be much more accountable and taught me how to succeed in business in New York City. She sets the pace, and has a compass for the next developments of our industries. We have become friends, disagreed with each other routinely to eventually agree and as a result have created a unique and desirable product known as RS Pop. I look forward to continuing our growing business and personal relationship.

I also need to thank and recognize John Birdsong. At this point John has been the longest working colleague of mine in the field of production, social media and marketing. We worked together at Plum TV, then at Panman  Productions and now with the Roger Smith Hotel. We absolutely disagreed on creative decisions but find clarity when discussing strategy and the vision ahead. A project in John’s hands will always take shape and inspire different levels of conversation. I’m not going to lie, he can be a pain in the ass but he’s always reliable and has continually had my back. Thanks John for the years of continued support.

The third acknowledgment that I feel is necessary to mention is my family. From my father who is always been my number one fan and audience member, to my mother who always believes in me and Phoebe who is continually trying to help me be my best. My family is the best support team that I can imagine and I am truly lucky to have them in my corner. They are the reason for the opportunities that I have in front of me and they are continually trying to keep me on my toes. I thank Allie and Jeremy and James and Maureen for providing a brilliant next generation.

I believe in that one can accomplish their greatest desires in life and I strive to live by that expectation. With hard work, support from others, and a dedication to seeing it through, I believe we will experience our biggest achievement in the new year. So my advice is, dare to dream and believe in your own success.  I look forward to making it happen in 2012.

I appreciate the continued support. Thanks for following the tangent

Please leave a comment and let me know what you are looking forward to in 2012.
Much love,
Panman

125 Window Installed!

No Comments 20 May 2011

Good morning on this grey Friday. The word of the day and persistence. I’m standing outside of the 125.
with a beautiful new window.
I am accompanied with Javier, who poses the question, what are you going to do with this space?

Well Javier, with a fresh coat of paint, and a bit of innovation, we will be creating a woolly bugger of sorts.

Matt Semler says “it’s a beautiful window. It looks great! congratulations”

Thanks Matt, I like it too…

So, what to do?

Number one, put a fresh coat of black paint on the exterior.
Number two, paint the interior white.
Number three, conspire with Javier as to what will go in this window for next weeks blog world NYC Expo.
Javier- that is easy, a QR code definitely.
John- okay, where will it direct you…
You’ll have to come and see…

Progress is made and we are happy in midtown! signing off.

Follow Fridays Top 3 from SXSW 2011! #FF Charlie Annenberg, @DMScott, @Paula_Moore, @RShotel

No Comments 15 April 2011

We haven’t done a Follow Friday in a while and I feel it is time to re-introduce the notion to our audience.

My top 3 people to follow from SXSW are as follows.

1. “Dog Bless You!”, Charlie Annenberg

Our first five minutes in the convention center in Austin, John Birdsong and I collided into Charlie Annenberg, who was immediately on point with a plan of action to help in the Japan Earthquake relief.

A message from Charlie Annenberg, founder of explore.org and Dog Bless You:

“The mission of explore.org is to champion the self less acts of others, to create a portal into the soul of humanity and to inspire life long learning. The most important thing for me is to create a portal into the soul. What is the easiest way to do this? Through dogs – they see our soul like no other. That is why as we build dog bless you, I believe that its mission should be to “champion the selfless acts of animals.”

Please feel free to share your stories about how your dog uplifts the human spirit.

Dog Bless You.

Charlie and Lucky

2. David Meerman Scott connected us to an network of interesting minds and influences. Of these we engaged with Renee Alexander of Unisef, Tim Washer of Cisco, John Jantsch of Ducktape Marketing and Aliza Sherman from the Social Media capital of the world, Toke Alaska to name a few. Both Tim and David were “In search of the outrageous” in Austin TX.

3. Paula Moore and Massive CIA

The transitional days between the Interactive and the Music is when all the magic happens at SXSW. As people were leaving after a week of the Interactive and Film portion, the music festival was just getting underway. Arriving into the city there is an energy of excitement. Being the last day in Austin, I left John and Adam to get some emails done at the Driskle hotel. I went strait to the second floor back patio where a couple of hip entertainment executives we setting up meetings and interviews. I politely asked if I could share the space and soon sat down next to them and began to tell them about the interactions between Roger Smith and Ben Franklin. #Rogersrewards.

Paula Moore turned to me and asked if I wanted to go out with her and her business partner Ralf Cavallaro… What else could I say. Not knowing at the time that I was hanging out with one of the Top Talent Scouts in the music industry, Paula introduced me to an amazing network. The connections made that night, have helped drive and inspire a new wave of professional and personal relationships. Founder of Massive Creative Intelligence Agency, Paula is a trip. Powerful and important, as she is a professional connector.

SXSW: The spies with Golden Ears

Through Paula I me Rev. David Ciancio of Yeah! Management who runs the the Social Media Rewards programs for Thrilllist. Rev’s energy and drive is going to bring wild excitement to the Pop up Marketing madness that is going around. I look forward to working with him in the future.

The common thread that connects Charlie, David and Paula is the fact that they are natural connectors. Great people of course with amazing sense of people in the room. Always interesting to follow.

Till next week.

If you like my list please RT #FF Dog Bless You and Charlie Annenberg, @DMScott, @Paula_Moore, @MassiveCIA SXSW 2011 @RShotel Follow Friday Pick!

Panman Report February 2011

1 Comment 26 February 2011

I write this as the son of Benjamin Franklin… I offer 100 thanks to you who continues to engage, support and contribute in the dialog and discovery of ideas. At the end of the kite their is a key. The idea is that it will conduct the charge that causes inspiration and break though. As you pull in the kite, the key seems to take the shape of a Roger Smith Hotel Room key. The connection between Roger Smith, Ben Franklin and James Knowles is complete.

I leave for Sweden with a pack full of Rogersrewards. My week has been a running race. Pace has been crucial. With so many things happening, I moved with speed and agility and made certain opportunities available.

“Social Media is a method, Realtime is a mindset.” – Thanks @DMScott

When things happened quickly, I reacted with lightning speed. Opportunities begin to present themselves and the scene changes. Support gained. Friends made. Barrier broken down. Progress! If you have your head up, you can see the world around you.

Only last week, I was advising those around me to be aware and keep their heads up. I am reminded of a young hockey play diddling with the puck at the blueline, ready to get laid out because his head is facing the ground. Not only is he in danger of getting his bell rung but he misses the opportunity of his wingman dashing to the net.

“You can only score if you shoot the puck”, says wise sue2!

So as I dart from, Spain to LA, Bahamas to VT now I am off to Are.
Wish me safe travels. I look forward to some snowy Swedish skiing conditions. I will be sure to bring you back a haring.

Looking forward, I am continually trying to conquer spaces and am feeling victory with the idea of hosting meet-ups in our beautiful suites.

Dare to dream and make your dreams a reality.
Till next week.
I am Panman aka @pancity, breaking open the head.

Stay tuned for details on my Mixology Meetup  that will happen in March.

1. Create and understand your buyer persona.

2. Follow the Grateful Dead. There are great marketing lessons to be learned from one of the world most iconic bands.

3. Cultivate eccentrics.

4. Talk about the snow. Man there was a lot of snow. Keep it human. Keep it current.

5. Real-Time Marketing and PR.
6. Old Rules v. New Rules
7. Is this Popup Marketing?

8. “You are a marketing company that has a hotel!”… Lightbulb.
9. Beware of the snap!
10. Communicate with your buyer persona.

Having David speak with us has transformed our marketing identity at the Roger Smith Hotel. We are beginning to look at our business in new light with a focus on persona rather than product.  Personally, I look to be a utility.  How can I help you? I aim to connect with more people within the thought leader positions, the trend setters, the brands that are looking to expand their reach, and the people who actively participate in their communities. There are opportunities popping all over the place. Come share in the glory!

The events will be spotlighting the Girl 2.0, an aspirational figure chosen this summer via a national new media search for Chinas most innovative female. As Chinas Ambassador of Innovation, the Girl 2.0 will serve as a courier of innovation stories between China and the U.S.Although China may be known as the world’s largest and fastest-growing source of entrepreneurial startups” according to Edward Tse, Booz & Company’s Chairman for Greater China, the challenges for entrepreneurs, especially female ones, cannot be ignored. Some are more universal, like access to network and capital. Others more unique, including building effective teams and the lack of soft skills like creative problem solving. The most significant hurdle, however, is Chinas social intolerance for failure.
How to Fail Up will be the kick-off event for the New York portion of Girl 2.0. The entire series of events will culminate on Nov. 6 in Shanghai, at the Girl 2.0 Expo, where the most innovative, cross-border business models and minds will be showcased in front of Chinas highest profile executives, investors and government officials. The 2010s Girl 2.0, Yuan Zou, was born and raised in China and schooled in Japan, U.S., and England.
