Pyndela and Fashion Week 2009

2 Comments 06 September 2009

Pyndela is included in this year’s Couture Fashion Week at the Waldorf Astoria on Friday September 11, 2009 at 6 p.m. A special thanks to Andres Aquino for putting everything together.

.

Pyndela dresses are fun yet graceful, not to mention just perfect to slip on from hot summer days to cool fall nights. The collection is carefully made with quality fabrics and high quality materials with lavishly and artfully decorated detailing. Pyndela are clothes for lunch, shopping, meeting in the city, going to clubs, cocktails, cruises and galas.Flirty yet sophisticated with a whisper of childhood like innocence.

”Pyndela clothes make a woman embody a sophisticated style while dancing around the perimeter of being a child with no borders. Elegance transcends with playfulness”

On Thursday August 20, 2009 Damon Tommolino opened his most recent art exhibition in the Solarium at the Roger Smith Hotel. His body of work reflects the concentration of time and space of sequential motion.

Artist Statement:

The point of my paintings is to provoke as much thought as possible. I try hard not to overly point a viewer in any one specific direction. I don’t believe this is my job as an artist. I would much rather present several ideas or options or paths for any viewer to take throughout any given piece. Therefore, I purposely leave a certain amount of ambiguity in the work. At its best, viewers will be able to make connections between the characters I paint and their own lives.

I strive to bring awareness to the way in which we live. My paintings reflect our society, our nation, and our most intimate relationships. Is there room for improvement or growth in our lives?

Love the Art. Molly Barnes and Damon talk about artist etiquette , and the nature of collectors in an art market.

Jerome Chang is the pastry chef and owner of DessertTruck, which opened its awning in late October 2007. Since night one, DessertTruck has been recognized for both its pioneering spirit and its delicious desserts. Countless praise has been showered upon DessertTruck. Adam Platt of New York Magazine (NYM) has proclaimed that “there’s no more fitting way to end a restaurant binge” than to visit DessertTruck and warned that the bread pudding is “dangerously addictive.” Noteable awards include “Best Hot Chocolate,” (NYM), one of the “100 Best Things Yelpers Ate in 2008,” and “Time Out New York 2008 Eat Out Award.” DessertTruck also emerged victorious in a chocolate bread pudding episode of Throwdown with Bobby Flay.

Jerome is a 2004 graduate of the French Culinary Institute’s Classic Pastry Arts program. Prior to starting DessertTruck, he was pastry sous chef at Le Cirque. He considers his mentor to be Michael Zebrowski, whom he worked for at the Westin Governor-Morris hotel in Morristown, NJ. Jerome also interned at the River Cafe in Brooklyn.

Hi Panman Productions blog readers!

I’d like to introduce you to a great brooklyn band with a sort of country-bluesy thing going on. The Morning Pages.

They played during our Roger Smith Shorts Film Festival.  A HOT summer night, good music, Brooklyn Beer flowing and the 16th floor penthouse. (Not actually a complete sentence)

Check out this short vid.  (My apologies for the less than ideal audio quality…my bad.)

Check back for more content featuring the Morning Pages.
What a great bunch of guys, and girl.

Cheers,

“Italy in 8″ by David X Prutting

A Photography exhibition in the Lobby of the Roger Smith Hotel. July 15- October 15, 2009. Opening night – Tuesday September 8th 2009, 6:30-8:30.

Sometimes on a vacation you can be in such a rush to take photos of everything that you neglect to stop and observe the subtle things that are always around you. My experience in Italy taught me to appreciate these more mundane moments: whether it was a field I drove by out the window of the car, an interesting wall with incredible details and vivid textures, a vegetable stand with a wonderful rustic feel, the soft muted colors of a building on the river at dusk, the un-measured movement of people and animals in their environment, a lonely bench in front of a graphic wall that gave me a nostalgic feeling, a lonely Vespa scooter keeping a perfect composition parked outside a window in Siena, or the lights outside the Coliseum at night , (when even though I had been late and missed a chance to view its inside, it still lent me its radiance and magnitude from afar).

The show entitled “Italy in 8” are photographs I took while traveling with my family on our first visit to Italy. The trip was short in duration, 8 days in all (hence the title), including 3 major destination cities: Venice, Florence, and Rome.

My trip to Italy gave me a new perspective in which I will my continue to practice in my future photographic adventures/travels: Try not to be rushed, anxious or frustrated by what your missing out on; and to find a dimension of your surroundings that you can relate to and exist in easily, allow moments of solitude to become unifying experiences with the people or places you are interacting with.

Roger Smith Shorts ‘09 (Festival Workshop) Winner: Dmitry Povolotsky

No Comments 01 September 2009

Congratulations to Dmitry Povolotsky, who was presented the Roger Smith Shorts ‘09 (Festival Workshop) Bronze Sculpted Creativity Award for his film “Clean the Room” on Saturday, August 22nd. The Judges Panel, which included James Knowles (President, Roger Smith Hotel), Ben Famiglietti (The Weinstein Company), Neil Alumkal (5WPR), Adam Neuhaus (Original Media) and Tommy Popps (Independent Producer) based their decision on 3 criteria: vision, craft and execution.

After deliberation, the judges decided on “Clean the Room” for it’s simple but concise execution; as with all the films, this modern day Cinderella story takes place all within the hotel, in which a dream comes true while a maid cleans the room, all under 6 minutes.

About the Director

Dmitry Povolotsky is a writer, director, and choreographer living in Brooklyn. At the age of ten, he was selected to attend the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow to study classical ballet. After graduating from the academy nine years later, Dmitry was awarded a full scholarship to Juilliard in New York City where he received a BFA in modern dance and choreography.

Dmitry remained in New York City to perform with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet for eight seasons and to teach ballet and choreograph for inner city youth at the Harlem School of the Arts.

After making his first short film in 2003, Dmitry left the dance world to study film at Columbia University Film Division. PAL/SECAM, his thesis film, has played at 40 film festivals all over the world, has won several prestigious film awards and was sold to 6 territories so far.
